Miriam moves date of parking meeting

April 4, 2007 · Filed Under Environment, Health/Safety, Miriam, Traffic/Parking · Comment

Miriam Hospital has moved the date of the neighborhood Parking Meeting (see below) to April 19 to avoid conflicts with public meetings on the city’s Comprehensive Plan.

The hospital has provided this schedule of upcoming events:

Landscaping Meeting

Tuesday, April 17th 6:30-8:30pm in the Fain Building second floor Lecture Hall.

This meeting is being held solely to discuss the landscaping that will accompany the completion of the new Clinical Services Building.

Please call 401 793 4040 to RSVP your attendance at this meeting.

Neighborhood Parking Meeting

Please join us on April 19th at 6:30pm at the Rochambeau Library Community Room to discuss issues related to parking.  The Miriam Hospital has hired Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc as parking consultants to help us plan for our future parking needs in an effort to reduce hospital parking that affects the neighborhood.

Representatives from the firm of Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. (VHB) will lead this meeting.  Members of The Miriam Hospital Parking Committee will also be present.

Neighborhood Tree Planting

Our newest and leafiest members of the neighborhood will be planted on Friday, April 27th.  New trees are being placed on sections of Third, Seventh and Eighth Streets beginning at 9am on that Friday.  Please call Monica Anderson @ 401 793 4040 if you are available to lend a helping hand!

Miriam wants resident input on parking

March 23, 2007 · Filed Under Health/Safety, Miriam, Traffic/Parking, Uncategorized · Comment

Miriam Hospital has invited residents to a meeting on parking issues on Thursday, April 12 at 6:30 in the Fain Building on Fifth St (2nd floor lecture room). The meeting is part of a traffic study being conducted by consultants as a condition of Miriam’s approved master plan.

Officials from the Providence Police and the Providence Department of Planning and Development will be there as well.

Miriam treated more than 100,000 patients, including inpatients, emergency room visitors and outpatients in 2005, all but a very few arriving by car. A staff of more than 2,200, plus 800 or more affiliated doctors, must also come and go. With the current expansion and created a planned future growth in emergency room capacity, we can expect hospital parking needs to increase in the years ahead.

Miriam meetings Tuesday, Sept. 19 & 28

September 13, 2006 · Filed Under Miriam · Comment

Miriam Hospital will hold its next quarterly meeting for neighbors next Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 6:30 in the Fain Building. We urge neighbors living nearby to attend. We continue to hear complaints from neighbors about hospital parking, lighting, noise and air quality, yet the quarterly meetings have been sparsely attended this year. We should all bear in mind that the large new building on Seventh Street is only the first of two - Miriam intends to buiild a similar new building at the corner of Summit and Fifth within a couple of years.

Miriam’s Environmental Committee meeting has been postponed for one week to September 28. This groups will also meet at 6:30 in the Fain Building.

Miriam landscaping update

June 13, 2005 · Filed Under Environment, Miriam · Comment

Last Wednesday 5/25/05 there was a meeting of the landscaping committee at Miriam. Below are some notes I took.

8th Street Landscaping
Elms are looking good. Miriam is working with the city on attempts to get trees planted on the house-side of 8th street.

Highland
Plan for a 6 foot wrought iron fence on Highland with a rolling gate. They have contracted with MON landscaping for this work, but do not have a schedule yet. Hoped it would be done by “end of summer”.

4th Street in front of Rise building
Plan to replace sidewalk, and add trees, and similar wrought iron fence. This has also been contracted with ON landscaping for this work, but do not have a schedule yet. Hoped it would be done by “end of summer”.

Future Landscaping Plans
Since landscaping around the front/sides of main campus will wait for completion of construction, possibilities for next phase of landscaping work are the Fain building, and the parking lot on 3rd street. No decision was made as to which should be a priority. There will be another landscaping meeting in 3(?) months.

The presentation included a number of landscaping images and architectural renderings of the new building, which I thought would be nice to have available on SNA website. I asked Monica if she could provide electronic copies of these images, and she said she would look into it. I tried to followup with her, but I keep getting bounce-back emails from TMHNeighbor@lifespan.org.

Kind Regards,
–Quentin McMullin, SNA Board member

SNA Releases Survey Results

May 25, 2004 · Filed Under Miriam · Comment

SNA today released the results of a survey of neighborhood opinion about Miriam Hospital and its plans for construction. The results show strong support for SNA’s position that the city, the neighborhood and the hospital must determine the hospital’s “right size” in this neighborhood, and limit growth to that.
