Growing Great Gardens Workshop Series
 
Growing Great Gardens participants will learn about the 
beauty of soil, organic flower and vegetable gardening 
methods, and creative, fun ways to garden with children.  
Workshops will be hands-on, and presenters will address participants’
individual questions relating to the topic 
at hand. Beginners and seasoned enthusiasts are welcome.  

Free with zoo admission, pre-registration required.

Growing Great Gardens Workshop descriptions: 
Gardening from the Ground Up  
Saturday, May 21       10:00am-11:30am
(limited to 30 participants)
In this workshop we will weave practical information about 
creating and maintaining healthy soil with poetry about the 
wonders of growth, seeds and gardens. Participants will 
explore the living soil and learn techniques for starting 
seeds right in their windowsills.   
 
Growing Organic in the City and Beyond: Why and How
Saturday, May 28       10:00am-11:30am
(limited to 30 participants)
Whether you are looking for ways to convert your backyard 
or urban garden space to be organic, or just trying to 
improve your organic techniques this workshop is for you! 
Southside Community Land Trusts’ own City Farmer will 
introduce you to everything you need to know to start and 
maintain your organic garden.  We discuss the need for 
organic gardening as well as the mechanics of composting, 
safe fertilizers, pest control, beneficial insects, 
container gardening, cover cropping, and more!
