[Summit] Illegal parking at 4th and Hope St. and the need for stop signs

Hi, all,
Well, it always comes down to this, doesn't it: enforcement, whether
it's shoveling sidewalks, stopping for pedestrians in the crosswalks,
or anything else.
For the record, I always cross in crosswalks, or at the corners. (I
don't understand why not all of the corners are marked.)
I think that the new "zebra stripe" crosswalks make pedestrians a lot
easier to see. I confess I don't stop all the time, either, and it's
usually because I'm going too fast. The speed limit on Hope St. is 25
mph. Almost no one goes that slowly.
I can believe that the pedestrian traffic from the ballet school on
the corner of 4th and Hope, added to the Seven Stars traffic, makes
that intersection a mess. And that if the pedestrians aren't using
the crosswalks (or corners), it's even more of a mess. I wonder if it
would help if we had those signs that stand up about 3 feet tall, in
the middle of crosswalks, reminding drivers that they have to stop for
pedestrians and it's the law. Mass. has these. The signs sound
serious! (I have the impression that they're backed up with action,
but I don't know it for a fact.) They'd be cheaper than traffic
lights and stop signs.
Sincerely,
Elva
