and a Walgreens is rumored to be going up in it's place.

The Dept. of Planning and Development begins its use of "charrettes" to
get community input on citywide growth, development goals and target
areas today.

This is the Providence Tomorrow project we've discussed and anticipated
for a long time. The various charrettes take place during the day and
evening at 400 Westminster Street - the corner of Empire and Westminster
down near Blue Cross. For retro-directionals, that's the old Harris Fur
building across from where the original Lupos used to be. There is an
article in the ProJo's Metro section this morning with details. I attach
the schedule provided by DPD.

DPD also says:

Parking will be validated for Charrette events !
At the Charrette, pick up a parking slip to present to the parking
attendant 
at the Weybossett Street lot (across from the URI Shepard Building) 
to recieve free parking for all Providence Tomorrow Charrette events.

Let me comment that while SNA and other neighborhood associations pushed
very hard for public engagement in city planning, a campaign that
eventually led to the Providence Tomorrow process, we were not consulted
on the design, location, timing or content of these sessions.
