Subject: Fwd: Tree Steward class info
Everything you wanted to know about trees...but didn't know who to ask:
The Rhode Island Tree Council is now taking registrations for the Fall 2007
Tree Stewards Education Course .
The course will start Wednesday evening, September 19th, in Providence. For
information call or email the Rhode Island Tree Council at 401-861-1995, or
ritree at ritree.org .
Topics include: tree identification, tree biology, planting and pruning
techniques, common pests and diseases of trees, and how to plan successfully
for trees in our increasingly urbanized environment. These classes are
geared to both amateurs and professionals, from understanding the basics to
the latest tree care research. Snacks and a large notebook of illustrated
reference material are provided.
Classes will meet six Wednesday evenings: September 19- October 24,
6:30-9:00 p.m.
and two Saturday mornings, October 13 and 20, 9:00
a.m.-- noon.
Classes this fall will be held at the:
DaVinci Center
470 Charles Street
Providence, RI
(Missed classes can be made up during the following sessions. The Tree
Council sponsors classes twice a year in different locations around Rhode
Island.)
To become a certified Rhode Island Tree Steward, participants are asked to
attend at least seven out of eight classes and to volunteer 30 hours of tree
related community service. Being a Rhode Island Tree Steward certifies that
an individual possesses sufficient knowledge, skills and informed concern to
bring about effective tree care. The council has many rewarding projects
for tree stewards, such as hands-on pruning and planting projects, helping
to develop their municipalities¹ tree programs, and participating in tree
care education programs for children, youth and adults.
To register for the course, or for further information, call Jeanne Current
at the Rhode Island Tree Council office, 401-861-1995, or e-mail
ritree at ritree.org The registration fee is $55.00 which includes an
Education Manual.
Master Card and Visa accepted.
