[Summit] Dear Irresponsible dog owner,

Yes, I agree with Allan- and I found that email was pretty unpleasant to
read, but I also empathize with John's angry feelings.

Several years ago a car skidded on black ice and plowed through some of our
shrubs, leaving a 6 foot length along the sidewalk missing. Immediately our
front yard became a litter box for at least one large dog, which I
unfortunately did not notice for a week. I cleaned it up, and then there was
more.
I was unable to be sure who the dog was, so there was no way to stop it. It
was not a regular thing so I had to put up some ugly fencing in the gap in
the hedges. And since the dog apparently now considered the yard his regular
place, he then came through, in places that had not been a problem before,
so I had to plug up* more* spaces. Finally that worked.

Now if I could just get people to keep their CATS out of my yard. I LIKE
cats, but not the way the have been helping themselves to my yard; they use
one corner as a sometime litter box, they stalk the birds below my feeder,
and also do that by "hiding" i.e. laying in my lilies and daffodils, thereby
squashing them flat. Several times a week. And sometimes I do find dead
birds. Please don't tell me that is nature- I set up a station to feed
birds, not to help cats hunt.
I've tried repellents, and yelling & throwing things, but it probably
doesn't work because the cats can probably tell I wouldn't really hurt them.
And it makes me feel bad. I don't appreciate being in this situation.

I thought people were supposed to keep their cats in so they won't be coyote
food.
Please, if you are one of these people who feels you must leave your cat
out, at least put a loud bell on it so it can't get birds, and I can hear it
and chase it out of my flower beds.

Anyone have any better ideas? I only rent and a fence wouldn't keep cats out
anyway.

Thanks.
Elianna
