[Summit] fountain

Just some further info on the Lippitt Park fountain: This fountain is
similar to the Bagnotti Fountain which was repaired/reactivated a few
years ago. I'm not sure on details but, for one thing, a vault would
have to be installed under the ground. That, plus whatever else is
necessary, would cost somewhere around $100,000. The fountain is
historical and so grants from somewhere might help finance the
renovation. Issues of liability mean the fountain would have to have
chlorinated water and that someone would have to come each day that the
fountain was on and be sure it was clean and free of glass. This would
seem to be a huge issue because glass-free in the morning doesn't ensure
glass-free after lunch. Senior citizens have been hired for a couple of
hours a day to do such maintenance. The fountain could be turned on only
at special times, or times of day, or for special events, thus cutting
down on negatives. I have spoken with Bob McMahon (a Summit resident) of
the Parks Department and he volunteered to speak and work with the
neighborhood association or fountain group. He has information, plans
used for the Bagnotti Fountain, etc. While he has the above-mentioned,
and important, concerns, he did offer hope. With enough money, and maybe
extra money to endow some sort of upkeep, a working fountain is
