The Narragansett Bay Commission plans to hold a neighborhood meeting for Summit residents to discuss plans for Phase II of the NBC's Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) project. Phase I of the project, a deep rock tunnel under the city of Providence, was completed in October 2008 and has already captured over 400 million gallons of combined sewage that otherwise would have flowed into the Providence River and Narragansett Bay.
Phase II involves near-surface construction to capture additional overflows, and, in the case of the Summit neighborhood, areas of sewer separation, to separate storm water from sanitary sewage. Construction is slated to begin in 2010.
The meeting is scheduled for:
Monday, March 23, 7:30 p.m.
Providence Public Library, Rochambeau Branch
708 Hope Street
Project maps and informational flyers will be available at the meeting.
