I think it is a great idea to allow community gardening. I recently saw ground
zero in NYC with a lovely garden for the community next to a kids play area and
it made a wonderful enhancement. Arthur
Take good care of yourself and others, so we can take care of the rest. Our
total future is really the long process of learning to be kind and growing

The point of a community garden is to increase access to healthy food for
the entire community, improving our food security in the face of global
warming. RI grows only 1% of its food, and is in desperate need of
increasing that as climate and transportation systems break down. Parks are
exactly the right place for community gardens. Greg gerritt

Shaw,
I'll take this opportunity to remind you again that personal attacks and
distorted facts are only costing you public support. People will be more likely
to take your side if you discuss issues, not the shadowy movements of a sinister
cabal of organic gardeners.
Here are some facts:
* SNA has never advocated for the removal of a single tree
* At the very same meeting where tree removal was announced, SNA immediately
scheduled a public meeting to discuss the issue
* The idea of community gardening in Lippitt Park was brought to the SNA Board
by a private citizen who first approached the Parks Department
* SNA has not, to my knowledge, endorsed community gardening in Lippitt Park or
anywhere else
* I am currently a member of the SNA Board of Directors
Speaking just for myself, I support community gardening, and I support community
gardening in Lippitt Park. Why not take this opportunity to have a cordial
discussion about which activities belong in a public park and which ones don't?
To me, it's pretty clear that a public park isn't meant to be an untouched
preserve but a place where humans perform various activities in a natural
setting. Numerous people over the years have felt similarly, because they
allowed a fountain and a playground to be built, music to be played, an arts
market and a farmer's market to be held regularly, and countless other
activities.
I'd recommend that anyone who's interested look at the beautiful community park
near the JCC on Sessions Street as an example. Instead of taking away from the
park it's part of, it absolutely enhances it.
- Jesse

I am looking for a reliable, knowledgeable appliance repair person (place?), for
my refrigerator. My freezer compartment is working fine but the refrigerator
part is not working at all. The refrigerator is not tremendously old (I think
less than 8 years). It is a Magic Chef. Thanks for any suggestions.

I think the Sears repair place repairs lots of appliances and models.
It's worth a try.

Good point, Erin. The car snooping (he may have been snooping around our
house, too, I just don't know) occurred on Lauriston Street in the block
between Hope and Bayard.
The break-in location has not yet, to my knowledge, been disclosed. And it
probably wasn't the same person, because the kid I saw was a teenager and
relatively short of stature.
Liberty, I don't think anyone is talking about jumping to conclusions about
African American males. I do think it's my responsibility as a homeowner
and neighbor to keep track of who our neighbors are, and to notice and
report suspicious activity -- including casing -- whether the people
involved are white, black, or any combination of ethnic traits.
