[Summit] gas fireplaces

And does anyone know about their effects on indoor air quality (either vented or self vented)?  We don't use our fireplace because of allergies; would a gas fireplace solve the problem or just add different particulates to sneeze at?

has anyone put in a self-venting gas fireplace? i'd love to compare  
notes on prices, etc., cause it's a lot more expensive than i thought.  
i picked one out at a place i shall not name, and the hidden fees are  
getting out of hand.
