Monique,
I need to address your comment about the nature of cats--as well as
fences. As an animal-lover, I am well aware of the nature of cats. I
also have a 6-foot fence around my property. However, cats--pursuing
their nature--find ways to get over or under the fence, and then they
pursue their nature in my lawn. My lawn happens to be inhabited by other
animals, such as birds and rodents, whom I happen to prefer to cats
(since the birds and rodents are not killing one another). I would never
turn a cat over to animal control, since they do indeed kill animals
also (though trapping wandering cats and bringing them to a no-kill
shelter does seem acceptable to me). However, I find it entirely
unacceptable that other people allow their cats to wander so freely. I
know it is legal. It should not be (it is in the nature of many kinds of
dogs to hunt prey as well but we do not let them wander freely, both to
protect them and to protect others from them). Please understand that we
all have different priorities regarding the life in our yards.

I am absolutely appauled that Mr. Matthews seemingly has NO understanding of
the nature of cats. They are meant to hunt prey; i.e. birds, rodents, etc.
This is their way to show appreciation of their habitat. Fences should
built around areas where people do not care to have cats intrude!
