Last night, at a little after 1AM, I began hearing an odd metalic hammering or picking noise.
When I looked from our porch I could see three guys, one standing over a bicycle, among some left over road work stuff, half a block down Hope from us.
They were under a tree so the street light was little help, but I could see that one of them was hammering hard at something while the other two watched.
I was immediately suspicious of such late night enthusiasm for industry, and called 911.
I don't know what happened then,
but this morning I walked over and see circular strips of hard black plastic with numbers on them.
I suspect they were smashing a lock on a chain on that bike. Maybe they got the bike free by lifting it up over a pole, but then needed to remove the chain??
Or who knows.... not good works, I don't think.

Ps Does anyone remember the email for Detective/Lt Schiavulli's replacement?
