[Summit] sewer work info

Ninth Street is on the* Sewer* work map.  That doesn't effect water
pressure- but it sure effects a lot of other things.  But there could be
water work also. The package did not have a map for water work.

I live on a corner right on Hope Street and have been living through more
than 2 months of digging & fillings, jack hammering & beepings.

We got one door hanger notice about a week before the whole thing started.
It said we could "expect to be inconvenienced from Mar 2012 till September
2012."
We thought that was just to cover the whole neighborhood, that each block
would be a lot less, but besides WEEKS of actual work, they are using our
block as a staging area.  And inconvenienced is a major understatement some
of the times.

I first met the jack hammer when they applied it to the catch basin about 4
ft from my front steps, before 8 AM in the morning.  My whole apartment was
shaking; the plumbing in the basement under us- sounded like it was being
clobbered.  The jack hammering continued till past lunch, with only brief
breaks to dig out the stuff they had broken lose.  This would have been
unpleasant in any case, but it was also a shock.  We had thought they we
done!  because the laying of the main pipe in the street had progressed
down a few blocks.  Unfortunately it developed that each catch basin takes
4 days for the different tasks necessary  AND that our corner had FOUR
catch basins.

Having the birds eye view (whether I wanted it or not) I made use of my
location to take some good pictures though, and have put together a Picassa
album of them with some explanations of what they are doing.

I think we should all get t shirts saying "I survived Saving the Bay!"
with a cartoon drawing of someone standing in a cloud of dust, coughing,
while covering their ears.
