BROWN, JUDITH BEALS, 81, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2012 at her
home in the Summit neighborhood. A lifelong resident of Providence, she was
the daughter of the late Morris and Dorothy Brown. Judy was a graduate of
Classical High School and a 1952 graduate of Brown University (Pembroke
College), earning her degree in American Civilization. She was a hard
working and loyal volunteer for Brown University her entire life, serving
as a leader of the Class of 1952 for many decades, and also as a career
advisor to several generations of Brown students. After retirement, she
enjoyed joining other alumni on "Brown Travelers" trips and was a member of
the University's College Hill Society, which consists of alumni who provide
consistent and long-standing support of Brown. She was an active member of
her community on Providence's East Side, serving for many years as the
secretary of the Summit Neighborhood Association, as a volunteer at the
Rochambeau Library, and as a Hospice volunteer. A parishioner of Grace
Episcopal Church for over 60 years, she served as a docent, a
chalice-bearer, director of the altar guild, and as a member of the vestry.
An avid gardener and bird watcher, she was a friend to many; involved,
interested and fascinated by many different things, eager to be with people
and to continue learning throughout her life. Judy worked as an executive
assistant at several companies, including Smith-Holden Dental Supply and
Dimeo Construction, as well as at the law firm of Hinckley Allen & Snyder.
She is survived by her brother, Theodore Brown and his wife, Carol, of
Jackson, NH; her nephew,Nathaniel Brown and his wife, Naomi, of Lebanon,
CT; her nieces, Elizabeth Brown of Williston, VT, Cornelia Brown, of Cape
Elizabeth, ME; her grandnephew and grandniece, Joshua and Sarah Morin of
Cape Elizabeth, ME; and many dear friends. A memorial service will be held
at Grace Episcopal Church in Providence on November 10, 2012 at 11:00am. In
lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Grace Episcopal
Church, Providence, RI, or to the Audubon Society. Condolences may be left
