[Summit] Fwd: Temporary home for Pittie?

Just wanted you all to know that the graduate student, Ashley, who needed
help finding a home for female pit bull has been in touch with one of the
rescues I mentioned, and the dog is being evaluated tomorrow -- the first
step in possibly finding a new home.

Let me just say that I hate the idea that anyone would give up an 8 year
old dog, and I discourage any and all from considering that unless it's a
matter of the owner's health or sudden poverty. It's heartbreaking for the
animal and can only be more disruptive to a dog that may already have a
behavioral issue.

Better to work with a canine behavioral expert on evaluation and training,
if possible. If necessary, there are comfortable cage muzzles that can be
used in situations when other animals are around a reactive dog. We had to
do this for a while when our elderly dog attacked our current dog (then the
newcomer) repeatedly. The muzzles were expensive, made of metal for the
cage part and leather lined with sheepskin for the strappy part; custom
shaped for the dog's face measurements. Well worth the one-time cost.) It's
not ideal, but I think it's far preferable to ditching your longtime pet.
Pets are for a lifetime!

Thanks to everyone who responded with ideas and help to Ashley, and to Mona
for posting on her behalf.
