Same here.  For years we had periodic flooding, every time it rained for
a day or more.  We'd sometimes get 1/2 inch of water across a third of
the basement floor.

At the same time, I noticed that my back yard was a swamp whenever it
rained a lot.  So I redirected a downspout away from the house, and
ordered 3.5 yards of soil, which I used to regrade my yard, carefully
sloping it away from the house.

We've had no flooding since - only a bit of moisture during prolonged
rainfalls.
