How does owning a cell phone and having some form of fixed address preclude
the gentleman in question from living in poverty?

Or is this just the old "poor people shouldn't have / don't deserve nice
things" fallacy that people perpetuate, as if poverty is some kind of
justified punishment for someone's sins, and as if giving up a $100 cell
phone on a $20/month T-Mobile plan or whatever is somehow going to catapult
that person from below the poverty line up into the ranks of the middle
class?
