Nightly news broadcasts on the three major television networks barely
mentioned the 47 million Americans living in poverty in the first quarter of
2016. According to a new report from Media Matters for America, NBC Nightly
News ran just two segments on the topic in the first three months of this
year. What¹s worse, ABC and CBS failed to cover the issue entirely.

I think the quote above is why this is such a surprose to so many. More
than 1 person in 7 in the USA lives in poverty. And the media does not
cover it. Which is why there are more in poverty every day.,

That and the growing inequality that is a deliberate result of the stupid
economic development policies offered by the political and speculator
classes. Tax breaks for real estate development, the favorite strategy in
RI, creates ever greater inequaltiy, and as Piketty noted, when your economy
becomes more unequal, it falls apart. Which is one reason that the
legislature and the governor refusing to let the folks in Burrillville vote
on what tax breaks to offer is so disgusting. greg
