| NEIGHBORHOOD NEWS
Groups, Neighbors Come Together to Fight for Zoning. After hearing hours of heated public testimony last Wednesday evening, the City Council Committee on Ordinances voted to deny a request to change the city's Zoning Ordinance to allow construction of the 600-foot tower proposed by architect Jason Fane. FPNA joined other neighborhood groups, the Providence Preservation Society, and many individual neighbors to testify against the zoning change. Next up, the Providence City Councilwill cast the deciding vote. To read City Councilman Seth Yurdin's (Ward 1, Fox Point) opinion, click here. To learn about the outcome, see the PPS site, here, the ProJo here, PBN here, and Councilman Sam Zurier's thorough summary, here. Read an Op-Ed by FPNA and DNA leadership, here.

First, Bikes. Now, Scooters? As neighbors may know, the City of Providence will soon launch an e-bike-sharing program citywide. But in a surprise announcement last week, the city shared news of a new electric scooter-sharing program as well. Read about the "bird" scooters here and here. Read new coverage (videos) of the electric bicycles here (EcoNewsRI), here (ProJo) and here (WPRI). Image here.

Where is Our Local Seafood? A recent news article in EcoRINews explains why RI seafood can be so hard to find in RI markets: "Just 15 percent of the seafood available at markets in the region originated in New England." Read about it here. Incidentally, RI Monthly's recent list, "Best Seafood in RI," praises Fox Point eatery Persimmon for its locally sourced fare, here. Image Photopin Lcnse

Library News: Kids Get a Break on Fees. The Providence Community Libraries have permanently waived past-due fees for all children's books due June 25 and beyond. Fines for other materials have been reduced, as well. Read about it here; see info and hours for our Fox Point branch here. |

| 13th RiverwalkRestoration Project
Our next project is this Tuesday, July 31st from 5:30–7:30 PM. We will pick up where we left off last month at Quay(located at the Riverwalk Level of 200 Exchange Street) to touch-up paint on railings, benches, and lamp posts. Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting paint on.

Since this project began two years ago with the Providence Parks Department, 200+ volunteers have saved the City over $250,000 in labor costs! Thank you for helping us make a difference!
