| Good afternoon, Based upon our preliminary statistics, highway fatalities were down in 2018. Although even one death is one too many, 2018 saw 59 deaths, down 30% from 2017, which saw 84. We're working hard to reach the goal of zero deaths and are investing $3 million to combat impaired driving. It's a long-term investment, but we're committed to doing our part to help save lives. | Carolina Bridges, Charlestown/Richmond
  
To prepare for the next phase of demolition, we will install protective shielding under the bridges. The alternating one-way traffic pattern remains 24-hours-a-day on Route 112 North and South, from Butter Lane to Carolina Mill Lane.

| I-295 Corridor Bridge Improvements, Cumberland
Partial right lane and shoulder closures are scheduled along I-295 North and South, from Exit 20 to Exit 22, Sunday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. to bolt down bridge barrier and replace striping. |

| Pound Hill Road Bridge, North Smithfield
  
We will form, install rebar and place concrete behind barrier so no lane closures are planned. |

| Providence River Pedestrian Bridge, Providence
  
We are scheduled to install hand rail lighting and decking.  |

| Route 6/10 Interchange Reconstruction, Providence
  
Utility work in on-going along the Amtrak right-of-way and Route 6, while we continue to excavate the old Route 10 South. Motorists can anticipate a periodic left lane closure for material removal on Route 6 West, from the Tobey Street on-ramp to the split with Route 10 South, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Pothole patching along Route 6 East and West, from the Route 10 split to Hartford Avenue, will also require lane closures in a moving operation during the same time period. Expect delays. |

| Victory Highway Bridge, West Greenwich

Expect alternating lane closures on I-95 North and South, from Exit 5A to Exit 5B, Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. We will remove the bridge deck forming and shielding over I-95, plus install guardrail for the first phase of the bridge behind barrier on Route 102. |

Raimondo Announces that RIPTA will Waive Fares for Residents on Aquidneck Island

Nearly 7,000 Residents Affected by Gas Outage

Governor Gina M. Raimondo announced today [Wednesday 23 Jan.] that the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is waiving fares for passengers traveling on Aquidneck Island in order to help people get to warming shelters and other essential services during a gas shutdown affecting about 7,000 National Grid customers.

"My number one priority continues to be public safety, and waiving RIPTA fares will help residents safely access critical services during this outage," said Governor Raimondo. "We have set up meal locations in Newport and National Grid continues to provide vouchers for hotels. Even with the slightly higher temperatures today, homes that have been without heat since Monday are too cold to be safe. Residents should seek alternate shelter if they haven't already. "

Governor Raimondo has been working with RIPTA, the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency and the City of Newport to determine how to assist area residents. On Monday, National Grid announced that it needed to turn off gas to approximately 7,000 customers as it worked to stabilize the main gas line that services the area. Since then, state and local officials have worked to set up warming shelters and other services for residents without heat.

"During this time, we don't want transportation to be a barrier for Aquidneck Island residents as they try to get to warming shelters, meal sites, medical appointments and more," said RIPTA CEO Scott Avedisian. "RIPTA can provide them with a warm, safe ride to where they need to go. This is about being there to help a community. Our main intent is to help people who are trying to get to services they need."

RIPTA has five routes and one Flex Service that offers service on Aquidneck Island; Routes 14, 60, 63, 64, 67 and Flex Zone Route 231. RIPTA will extend this assistance to ADA customers who use the RIde program. RIPTA will be keeping a tally of passenger trips on the island and RIPTA will work with National Grid on reimbursement.

While gas is being restored to some homes and businesses today, others could be without service for a week or more. RIPTA will monitor the situation daily to determine how long bus fares will be waived on Aquidneck Island.
