| Today's Finance Meeting cancelled--reset for 10am tomorrow (Saturday) morning:
UPDATE:
Apparently the mayor’s staff and the council are continuing to negotiate so the meeting has been postponed again. As of now, the Finance Committee Meeting tomorrow morning at 10am is still on.  Since this one will supposedly be the meeting where they agree on a plan, it would be very important that we show a good turnout.  This site shows scheduled meetings and cancellations, so please check it before heading to the meeting.  I apologize to those who made the trip today only to find a cancelled meeting--again. This second cancellation and rescheduling is all the more reason to ask for a veto and be outraged.  A public meeting on a Saturday morning seems to indicate that the council does not want transparency.
To add to the confusion, this article in GoLocal Prov Igliozzi states that Elorza (out of town on business) has agreed to a homestead exemption, but others feel that statement may misrepresent the larger picture and needs further clarification.

>From Councilwoman Helen Anthony regarding cancellation of today's meeting:
This morning I asked Chairman Igliozzi via text and email to confirm the convening of the Finance Committee today at 3:30 as I had constituents who wished to testify against changing our tax structure to a single rate with a homestead exemption.  The Chairman replied with the following:

“Helen, at this time the meeting will be canceled.  If it is any consolation, you can let your constituents know that if they are going to get a tax break under the mayor plan they will continue to get the same tax break plus more with this plan, and a constituent that is getting a tax increase under the mayors plan you can let them know their taxes will be lowered”.

I’m a member of the Finance Committee and I don’t even know what his “plan” is! At this late date, the Chairman has not confirmed the amount of the single rate or the % of the homestead exemption.  The lack of process and transparency is appalling.

THERE IS A FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING SCHEDULED TOMORROW (SAT.) AT 10:00 A.M.  I’M TOLD THAT THE CHAIRMAN PLANS TO PASS THE BUDGET OUT OF COMMITTEE AT THIS MEETING.
