[Summit] This weekend's reopening of Avon Cinema (showtimes) & Brown Dorms (traffic & parking adjustments)

 Dear neighbors,
Thanks to many of you for joining our community webinar last week. We are working on posting the webinar recording to Brown's YouTube channel, and I'll let you know as soon as it's available.

As a reminder of Brown's phased student return and three-term "de-densification" model, here is an excerpt from healthy.brown.edu:

"To reduce the density of students on campus, Brown will pursue a three-term academic model, and also will implement a robust set of public health practices to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 on campus and safeguard the health of students, employees and community members. Students will be scheduled to be on campus, if they choose, in phases to reduce density in line with rigorous health protocols.

Brown announced on August 11, 2020, a phased approach to bringing students back for the fall semester in light of the shifting public health conditions of the global pandemic. In the first phase of the fall term, all undergraduate classes will be taught fully online until the week of October 5, and only a limited number of undergraduates will be permitted to return and have access to campus. The majority of undergraduate students will start the Fall 2020 semester studying remotely. The majority of undergraduates are expected to return to campus in phase two, provided that health conditions allow. The University will announce a decision by September 11, 2020, about proceeding with phase two of bringing the majority of students back to campus."
 As indicated by the bold text above, a smaller, limited group of students will return this weekend, beginning Saturday, August 29. Different than in past years, move-in will be spread over several days to de-densify the number of students and families coming to campus at any one time. Many Brown staff will be on hand to ensure compliance with public safety protocols.

Traffic changes will be as follows (residents will be allowed access to their homes; speak with officers on duty):

STREET CLOSURE & NEW TRAFFIC PATTERNS

Each Day, Sat 8/29 through Tues 9/1 @ 7:30 am until 4:00 pm

   - Charlesfield Street: closed from Thayer Street to Brown Street.
   - Bowen Street: one-way east from Thayer Street to Brook Street.
   - Young Orchard Street: one-way east from Hope Street to Cooke Street.

EMERGENCY NO PARKING

Saturday, August 29th @ 2:00 am THROUGH Tuesday, September 1st @ 4:00 pm

   - Charlesfield Street from Thayer to Brown Streets.
   - Bowen Street from Thayer to Brook Streets.
   - Young Orchard from Hope to Cooke Streets.
   - Thayer Street from Power to Charlesfield Streets.

Following both state and CDC guidelines, the theatre has installed plexiglass dividers, to protect both employees and patrons, enhanced its cleaning procedures, has added on-site hand sanitizer dispensers available, and will require all employees and guests to maintain social distancing protocols and wear face masks. Guests may remove their face masks after they are seated in the auditorium.
