Good morning neighbors,
I'm writing to share the link to our August 20 community webinar, which is now posted on Brown's YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aoYm8aiP1c&feature=youtu.be
We are planning to host a series of community webinars throughout the academic year. Additionally, our community newsletter will be published at least monthly, or more often as the University issues major announcements.
If you are not already receiving the newsletter, you can sign up by replying to this email with "subscribe." Brown's current plans are posted at healthy.brown.edu; a public dashboard of University COVID testing results will be posted shortly.
Thank you and best wishes,
Katie

| Hi David,
It’s almost time to get back to school. That means it’s time to stock up on notebooks, folders, pencils, highlighters – and masks. After months without seeing friends and teachers, I know many of you are excited to get back into school. Of course, a day at school this fall will look a little different than what you’re used to. Here’s what to expect: |
|

|
|
- When you wake up, one of the first things you’ll do is check for symptoms. Most districts are encouraging students and parents to download Crush COVID as an easy way to keep track of symptoms each day. If you’re symptom-free, you’ll head to school.
- Transportation is going to look a bit different. Buses will have reduced capacity, bus stops will have clearly marked waiting spaces to ensure social distancing, hand sanitizer will be available, and students will have assigned seats. All students will also get a health screening before getting on a bus.
- Schools will change their drop-off procedures to prevent overcrowding by staggering schedules and providing multiple drop-off points. There will be health screenings walking into school as well.
- Once you’re in your classroom, you’ll have an assigned seat and will need to wear a mask throughout the day. Classrooms will have open windows, fans, and other measures to provide air circulation. In many places, learning will happen both indoors and outdoors.
- After a few classes, it’ll be time for lunch. Most students will eat lunch in their classrooms with their stable groups, and in some districts, lunch will be eaten outside.
- You’ll still get to have recess! Of course, you’ll need to wash your hands before and after. When you’re outside in your stable groups, you may have your own play equipment. And you may have a schedule for when to use certain parts of the school yard.
- At the end of the day, pick-up procedures will look a lot like drop-off, with staggered times and separate entrances to avoid crowding.

| Months of hard work and thoughtful planning have gone into reopening schools safely, and I want to thank all our school leaders for your creativity and innovation.
I'll be holding one more press conference tomorrow to round out a full week of back-to-school updates. I hope you'll join us at 1 p.m. tomorrow to finish the week strong.
We're all in this together,
-Gina RaimondoGovernor |
