| Hi David, Throughout this crisis, Rhode Island’s businesses have found creative ways to keep their doors open while keeping customers safe. I want to thank you for your continued partnership and innovation. That said, one area where we can all do better is in monitoring for symptoms. Individuals should be tracking symptoms daily, and businesses should be conducting health screenings at the front door. In that spirit, today I want to talk about a new tool to make it easier for businesses to screen for symptoms, and it’s a tool that many of you already have on your phone.  82,000 Rhode Islanders have downloaded the Crush COVID app, and I’m excited to announce today that there’s a new update available. It’s currently available for download in the Apple App Store and Google Play. This update includes a couple new, useful features. |

| First, as those of you who use the app know, every day you are prompted to enter your symptoms. It only takes 30 seconds and is so important. Starting today, after you complete your daily symptom tracker, you’ll get a screening page with either a green smiley face – meaning you don’t have symptoms – or a red frown face – indicating you should stay home. This tool can make it much easier for businesses and schools to do their health screenings, and will make it quicker for you to enter. Rather than answering the same set of questions everywhere you go in the course of a day, you’ll be able to simply hold up your phone with the green smiley face. We’ll be working with businesses over the coming weeks to get them on board with this new system. We’ve also added a second new feature that’s particularly useful as our kids get back to school. Starting today, you can track and log symptoms not just for yourself, but for up to 10 people in your household. |

| Finally, I am very excited to announce that we’re launching a new contest this Friday. We’re asking Rhode Islanders to download Crush COVID, complete your Symptom Diary for at least seven consecutive days, and submit a screenshot to enter for a chance to win a night’s stay at the Renaissance, the Dean, or Hotel Providence. I'll share more contest details on my social media pages on Friday.

Each year in Rhode Island, Labor Day marks the (unofficial) end to our summer. It’s a busy time, and with daily press conferences last week on all our preparations to get back to school safely, you may not have been able to catch everything. | Last week’s Back to School forum was one of our best discussions so far. Superintendent Peters was able to share his unique perspective working 24/7 to get our state's largest district ready for school. And Secretary Jones gave us the big-picture look at how important in-person learning is for our students' physical and mental health, as well as the services available to students who are struggling. I hope you'll take some time to listen to what they had to say as we get ready for the first day of school next week. |
