Mural Arrives in Time for School. Have you seen the fantastic new mural on the front door of Vartan Gregorian Elementary? Thanks to the hard work of Myles Dumas, Yarrow Thorne, and others at the Avenue Concept—in partnership with City Councilor John Goncalves, FPNA, Graphic Innovations, Adler's RI, and the Wickenden Area Merchant's Association—elementary students will receive a warm welcome when school starts next Monday. See the announcement on Facebook, here. Image, here.

Cottage Controversy Continues. Over the last several months, the architect Friedrich St. Florian has applied for permissions from historic and municipal commissions to move a 19th-century Williams Street cottage, renovate the cottage, and redesign the nearby landscape. Neighbors have vehemently opposed the project, citing preservation issues, environmental concerns, and a fear of subsequent construction of townhouses on the property. Architect Will Morgan has recently weighed in, acknowledging the controversy but supporting the proposal overall. "The outcome will be worth the angst," he writes. Meanwhile, architect Dave Brussat has weighed in twice, not only opposing the project ("Don't do it," he advises) but clarifying and contextualizing the situation. Read Morgan's opinion here and Brussat's pieces, here and here. Image, Amy Mendillo.

Fed up With The ATVS? If you find the wild and unlawful use of all-terrain vehicles "aggravating and...frightening," as one Providence resident put it recently, you are not alone. Our Ward 1 City Councilor John Goncalves, in coordination with other members of the Council, have been working on a solution. See a recent update on WJAR 10, here. Image, WJAR.

Voter Registration Guide Now Available. Curious about how and when to vote in the general election in November? Check out a new guide produced by RI Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea. Download the guide (in English) here. |
