The Rochambeau Branch, and all of the Providence Community Library system, have impressed us with their response to the challenges of serving the needs of our community this past year. As a member of the Friends of Rochambeau, you have provided continuous support for the library staff, through maintaining resources and offering funding to adapt services to the pandemic. As the library continues to expand its offerings and taking the lessons learned from the past year as an opportunity to rethink how people access library services, the Friends of Rochambeau will continue providing financial support and encouragement to our community library. Please consider inviting neighbors and friends to become members, and to join us for upcoming library and FOR events! We hope to see you at our virtual annual meeting on June 7, 2021, at 7:00 PM (more details below).

| What do the Friends of Rochambeau Do? |

| SubscriptionsThe Friends of Rochambeau funds the library’s subscriptions. Periodicals and newspapers include the New York Times, Boston Globe, Providence Journal, and Consumer Reports. During non-Covid times, we also provide passes to the following: Museum of Science Boston, Providence Children's Museum, Roger Williams Park Zoo, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and the RISD Museum.

| Activity KitsThe Rochambeau Branch’s children’s and youth library staff are giving away take-home activity kits, funded by Friends of Rochambeau. Past themes have included Donut You Love Libraries (as pictured, above), pine cone bird feeders, book nook dioramas and more! New kits will be advertised on the Rochambeau Library website and facebook page. For more details, contact Sammi Muther. |

| MusicOnce the pandemic has loosened its grip and things open up, we look forward to hosting musical events again at the Rochambeau Branch. If you have suggestions for future performances, please send us an email! |

| YouTube ChannelThe Providence Community Library has a YouTube channel! As part of this program, the Friends of Rochambeau funds free virtual Yoga from the Glitter Goddess Art Collective (pictured above). You’ll also find American Sign Language storytime with Rochambeau children’s library staff Sammi and Laken, crafts, coloring, Spanish/English bilingual storytime, readings, and more! Learn more |

| The Many Ways to Get Books from Rochambeau |

| Curbside Pick-up and DeliveryIn addition to the Rochambeau Branch's regular hours, curbside pick-up is available everyday, even on Fridays when the library is closed. To put together a children’s book bundle, curated specially for your child, call (401) 272-3780 or send an email request.

| Book SalesFriends of Rochambeau small book sales are ongoing! Your Book Sale volunteers keep some books on the shelves. Come in and browse the bookcases next to the elevator on the main floor. Still only $1.00 per book ($0.50 for small paperbacks and children's books). NOTE: We are not able to take any book donations at this time. The library staff appreciates your understanding and cooperation. |

| Save the Date! Annual Meeting and Guest Lecture |

| The Friends of Rochambeau Annual Meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 7, 2021, at 7:00 PM! This meeting is a time to come together and this year will be no different… though it will be virtual. We're pleased to host Kevin Klyberg's presentation on the domestic and international influences prior to and during the War of 1812, which affected the Blackstone Valley textile industry. Stay tuned for more details! |

| Rochambeau Branch Staff Highlight: Laken!Laken, our very own Children's Specialist, came across an interesting post on Instagram and knew she had to learn more. So she did what anyone would do - went to the library! Minus 148 Degrees: The First Winter Ascent of Mount McKinley by Art Davidson was a hit that Laken highly recommends. At the time the book was published, the mountain had been renamed Mount McKinley, but the name Denali was rightfully reinstated in 2015. When Laken is not at the library (or reading or tending to her beautiful garden), she's out hiking in the White Mountains, one of her favorite spots for backpacking. She's working on hiking all the four-thousand footers currently, but once that is crossed off the list, who knows - maybe she'll have her own Denali expedition. |

The Friends of Rochambeau are seeking additional board members who represent the local community. Board responsibilities include fund-raising, program planning, monetary and hands-on support of activities and programs at Rochambeau Library and PCL, approval of yearly budget and supervision of expenses, cooperation with PCL in promoting the Library in the communities. Please email Michael Marcus if you or someone you know might be interested in joining this fun group. |

The Friends of Rochambeau supports and promotes library service in Providence through fund-raising, volunteerism, community outreach, and service as advocates for the Rochambeau Library and for the Providence Community Library (PCL). Our group of up to 16 volunteers meets the first Monday of every month (with summers off). We are proud to serve as an important link between the Rochambeau Library and the neighboring community. |
