Note that while 02906 (the East Side, including most importantly Mount Hope/Lippitt Hill) has been added to the Providence ZIP Codes where all residents older than 15 automatically qualify for vaccinations beginning tomorrow (Monday 12 April), the same is not yet true for 02903 (roughly Downtown, the Jewelry District, Federal Hill and the inner West Side).

At Thursday's COVID press conference, the state announced that starting Monday, April 12 any 02906 resident who is 16 years or older is eligible for a vaccine appointment at any outlet in the state outlined below. Remember that the state has been releasing many appointments on Tuesdays at 9am and Fridays at 5pm.

COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility Opens for Next Group

Between now and April 19, the State is going to continue to open eligibility to different age groups, as you can see on their updated timeline.

By May 15, they expect 70% of Rhode Islanders age 16 and older to have at least one dose of vaccine. And by June 5, they expect 70% of ALL Rhode Islanders to have at least one dose of vaccine.

COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility Expands 

Eligibility will open up to Rhode Islanders age 16 and over in certain zip codes over the next several days.

On Monday, April 12, eligibility will open for certain ZIP codes in Providence, and other cities. These ZIP codes include zip code 02906, 02893, 02910, 02920, 02911, 02914, and 02919.

People in these ZIP codes will be eligible for vaccination at State-run vaccination sites, local and regional sites, and at participating pharmacies.

Registering for Vaccination at a State-run Site

To register to be vaccinated at one of the State-run sites, visit www.vaccinateri.org. People who cannot register online can get help by calling the automated line at 844-930-1779. The call center is open on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and weekends from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed on holidays).

Through both systems, an individual can either make a personal appointment or an appointment for someone else who is eligible.

As supply allows, new COVID-19 vaccination appointments at the State-run vaccination sites will be made available at the following times:      
   - Beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesdays
   - Beginning at 5 p.m. on Fridays    

Additional appointments may also be posted throughout the week as they become available.

Appointments are expected to fill up quickly. Additional appointments may be added throughout the week as slots open. 

Lifespan and Care New England Limited Supply of Vaccine
Lifespan and Care New England have received a limited supply of COVID-19 vaccine to administer to patients according to RIDOH eligibility criteria. They will offer COVID-19 vaccinations by appointment only and will not take any walk-ins at the clinics.

Vaccine Access for ALL Rhode Islanders

The state is working to eliminate barriers to vaccination and increase ease of access. They want vaccine to be as accessible as possible for ALL Rhode Islanders.

If you are unable to leave home to receive COVID-19 vaccination, or are the healthcare provider or family caregiver of someone who is homebound, you can visit covid.ri.gov/vaccination, call 211, or Rhode Island’s Office of Healthy Aging Help desk, the “Point,” at 401-462-4444.

Public Transportation to Vaccine Sites

Many vaccination sites across the state are accessible by public transportation.

To view transportation routes and any possible walking distances, visit www.ripta.com and enter your travel information into RIPTA’s Trip Planner on the homepage. The website also has detailed maps and timetables for every RIPTA route. If you need help or cannot visit the website, call RIPTA’s Customer Service team at 401-781-9400.

Anyone enrolled in Medicaid or older than 60 can use the Non-Emergency Medical Transport Service provided by MTM. Transportation can be booked online at https://www.mtm-inc.net/mtm-link/ or by calling MTM at 855-330-9131 (TTY: 711) at least two business days before the appointment. If you are not enrolled in Medicaid, there may be a small cost to schedule a ride. For more information on the Non-Emergency Medical Transport Service, please see this FAQ sheet.

Vaccine Interest Notification List

To learn when you are eligible for vaccination or when a vaccination appointment opens for you at one of our State-run sites, you can sign up for the Vaccine Interest Notification List (VINL). People can sign up at portal.ri.gov or by calling 844-930-1779.

Notifications will be sent out each Wednesday. They may also contact you on other days if there are available appointments.

When a slot opens up for you, they will contact you using your preferred method of contact.

You will be offered an appointment day and location. The day will be roughly two weeks in the future and the location will be one of our five State-run sites. You may be able to choose an appointment time, depending on availability.

The link you get to register for an appointment can only be used once and is valid for 24 hours. If a person does not respond within 24 hours, their spot will be made available to someone else and they will return to the waiting list.

People who do not use this pre-registration system will still be able to make a COVID-19 vaccine appointment at a State-run site by going directly to www.vaccinateRI.org or by calling 844-930-1779. They can also make an appointment at a pharmacy or regional or local site. This pre-registration system is simply one more option for people. It is not required.

Local Vaccination Sites

The City of Providence is currently booking available appointments for upcoming Providence COVID-19 Vaccine Clinics for Providence residents. Appointments are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. 

Providence residents who are technologically able and can meet the specified criteria can register* themselves for open appointments on one of the following clinic dates here:

*Internet Explorer will not work with the Providence registration links. 

Residents who need assistance signing up for an appointment are encouraged to dial 3-1-1 or or (401) 421-2489 to speak with a Mayor's Center for City Services Representative who can walk them through the enrollment process in English or Spanish. Although additional staff are supporting phone lines, residents should expect longer than normal wait times as MCCS anticipates a higher than normal call volume.

Regardless of your age, you can also sign up for the City notification service at  https://www.providenceri.gov/vaccinate/vaccine-notification-eng/ and enter your information into the “Join Our Notification List” section. This is specific for vaccination in Providence, so only open to Providence residents.

As the city receives additional doses for our residents and schedules more vaccine clinics, city staff will contact residents who have filled out this form as one form of communication. 
 Pharmacies 

Due to an increase in Janssen vaccine from the federal government, both CVS and Walgreens will expand the number of stores in Rhode Island offering vaccine appointments. The new stores will start accepting vaccine appointments this weekend.

To view CVS or Walgreens stores near you offering a vaccine appointment or to find another type of vaccine site near you, visit the Vaccine Site Locator.

Stop & Shop and Walmart now offer the COVID-19 vaccine at pharmacy locations for eligible people in Rhode Island. Stop & Shop will offer the Moderna vaccine at most locations and the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine at four Stop & Shop pharmacies, while Walmart will offer the Pfizer vaccine.

   - Stop & Shop: Eligible people can make a vaccine appointment at all 14 Stop & Shop Pharmacy locations in the state. To make an appointment or for more information, visit www.stopandshop.com/covid-vaccine.     

Although people age 16 and older with underlying health conditions are eligible in the state, Stop & Shop Pharmacy locations will only be able to vaccinate individuals 18 and older as the Moderna and Janssen vaccines have only been authorized for people 18 and older.

   - Walmart: Eligible people can make a vaccine appointment at select Walmart pharmacies in Rhode Island. For more information or to make an appointment, visit Flu Shots & Immunizations - Walmart.com.
