Dear Members, Supporters and Friends,

Happy Earth Day!

After a long and challenging winter, it’s a pleasure to see fresh beginnings throughout the parks - from the flowering trees on the Boulevard to the newly returned songbirds near York Pond. Now more than ever, we can see how important it is to steward our environment.

Join us in celebrating Earth Day! There are many ways to get involved:

   - Volunteer to clean up the shore along River Drive and the Seekonk River this Saturday, April 24! The Blackstone Parks Conservancy and Save the Bay are partnering to hold this shoreline cleanup. To ensure COVID safety, you must pre-register on Save the Bay’s website to join us.
   - Help us turn Boulevard sticks into valuable mulch.  From now until Saturday, April 24, if you see a large stick (more than 1 foot long or thicker than your thumb) on the Boulevard, place it near a tree marked by a green ribbon and a sign. Small branches will be used around Boulevard trees, and larger ones will be collected for chipping.

WBNA's 38th Annual Spring Cleanup and GreenUp!

TOMORROW, Saturday, April 24

Tool Bank open 9:00AM - 1:00PM

For 38 years, neighbors, friends, and families have come together for WBNA's Annual Spring Cleanup to make a visible impact on neighborhood cleanliness and safety. Even though we will not be gathering or teaming up with other neighbors this year, we can all work together by cleaning our own yards and addressing areas in the neighborhood that need attention.

If you need tools or trash bags, WBNA’s Tool Bank will be open and available to lend tools for FREE to current WBNA members from 9:00AM-1:00PM. Please make sure to bring a valid form of ID. We will hold it and return it to you upon checking in the borrowed tools.

PLEASE NOTE: trash will not be picked up by the city this year. Trash needs to be disposed of in your home trash containers.
Enter a raffle to win a $50 gift card to the local business or restaurant of your choice (within the WBNA focus area), by submitting BEFORE & AFTER photos, plus one 311 report with a short sentence describing the who, what, where, why and when of your neighborhood clean-up project to wbna at wbna.org.

Neighborhood Wide Yard Sale
Saturday, May 22 8:30AM - 1PM
Deadline to get on the map: May 18 5PM
Sign up to get on the map TODAY and encourage your neighbors to the left and right to also get on the map to create yard sale clusters and draw more shoppers to your sales. If you don’t have space for a sale where you live, WBNA Headquarters has space available for your yard sale. We welcome our local businesses to get on the map with a Sidewalk Sale or a special discount to draw shoppers to your business or a similar fun idea. Arts sale, open houses and the like are also welcome to get on the map (please specify the nature of your sale so we can mark the map accordingly).

Exciting news! The Eggroll sale that takes place as a part of the Yard Sale will happen again this year! Providence Hmong Church Executive Director Mailee Khang gave WBNA the good news and says that this Eggroll Fundraiser will be used to help the Women’s Department and the Youth’s Department [of the Providence Hmong Church] to attend conferences. It will also be used to help the Youth’s activities bring them closer to God. |

Zoning 101

April 28, 12:00PM - 1:00PM

Can you build that here? How did that housing project get the green light? Do I live in a historic district? Whether you’re an urbanist or simply curious about how things work, the Department of Planning and Development is excited to offer a virtual coffee hour series for Providence residents. Led by guest experts, each gathering will cover topics essential to the planning process.

The inaugural event, Zoning 101, will walk attendees through the basics of common zoning regulations and the boards and commissions that review the process along the way. Bob Azar, Deputy Director of the Department of Planning and Development and members of the Current Planning and Inspection and Standards teams will help lead the discussion.
We hope you can join us for our first conversation on April 28 from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM on Zoom. This event is free and open to the public but pre-registration is required. To register, please follow this link: http://bit.ly/DPD_Zoning101
