The ratings are garbage. The fact that multilanguage learners are ignored in rich districts and a weight on lower income and diverse districts shows the ratings are racist, classist, and bull---. Essentially what the ratings how us is rich districts get high ratings and lower income districts get marked down. That tells us quite clearly that using the property tax to fund schools is incredibly stupid. it condemns kids from lower income places to lousy schools. What is worse, is that most kids from higher income places have more support (computers, books, whatever) at home than kids in lower income places. Lower income places need more support to make up for the lack of resources in their homes. If Central Falls paid for Barrington schools and Barrington paid for Central Falls schools, the system would work a lot better. But even under those circumstances the kids from Barrington would get teachers who want cushier (not cushy, but cushier) jobs and more support at home. What we really have to do is end poverty, which means changing how we do economic development in RI.
