Independence day and fireworks 2024

Most years I try to get to the fireworks, as the founders suggested we do.  And occasionally I read the Declaration of Independence, but not this year.  But given my history of involvement in politics and public policy I do spend a bit of time pondering democracy and what core American values are.  Everyone has their own way of describing it, but these days there is a larger and larger movement to end democracy, even if we leave the pretense of elections. I fully expect that if Trump is elected I will write something that gets me thrown in jail.  Anyways one slogan I am partial to is “ecology, equality democracy , peace.”    To solve the problems of the world, we need solutions that simultaneously and collaboratively move towards solutions that move us forward in all 4 areas.  I also am quite clear that the planet always loses under autocracy .  The rubber meets the road in a democracy when we see whether or not low income communities, EJ communities, communities of color, can say no to inappropriate development and development that leaves them out.  If we cannot say no to powerful economic players, we do not really have rights.  Anyways:  To more than 240 years without a king despite what the supreme clowns said and the fascists want to create.  May we have many more and create that more perfect union.
 
So for those of you who could not get out here is abou8t 20 minutes of fireworks.  Looks rather strange through the camera lens, but very cool.  And really note the time delay between lights and boom.
