"They'd rather have it empty than us succeed"

Ah ... capitalism. Buy out the local business, spend five years steadily worsening the product, close it due to "underperformance," and then hold on to the empty space, blighting the area, so no competitor can succeed there.

I had actually already written my email to Dave’s before I saw this thread. I’ve always wanted them in that space since Eastside Marketplace stopped being a locally owned store.

I heard back already. They are looking into this space but I guess the main obstacle is that S&S has a real estate holding company that mostly refuses to sell and might not even rent to another grocery store.

Thanks Ashley!!

We really appreciate your support! It's too early to say what we can and cannot do. Historically, Stoppie has a real estate holding company that dictates who it sells(almost never) or rents to. Depending upon stoppies needs, they will decide accordingly ... they'd rather have it empty than us succeed. But again, it's a little too soon to tell. Thanks for reaching out! We value your support!

It has a very good demographic for a supermarket. If the professionals agree, and the site is not priced too high we shall get something. But if the landlord is greedy might take years greg

Stop & Shop is closing East Side Market within 6 monthsy

This would be a great place for a Market Basket.

Hoping more folks will make the suggestion to them.

Not only to save trip to Attleboro,

but the make more competition to force down prices at Whole Foods & other Stop & Shop

I wrote on the Market Basket "contact us page"

PLEASE Jump on this! S & S 176 Pittman St is closing. Buy this store and open a Providence location. PLEASE It is so tiresome to have to drive to Attleboro.
With your prices and good produce you will NOT under-perform!
Stop & Shop was outrageously expensive, sold produce that rotted in days,
failed to charge prices advertised in aisles, so you had to read your slip immediately every time.
There is also a good size parking lot. It is very worth checking out!!
