See Councillor Davidson’s nine comments below the update from the Mayor’s office that I forwarded yesterday.
I’m sure that some of that will also apply outside her Second Ward.
Good luck,
Dave

Alternate Side Parking on Monday February 2 for Garbage/Recycling pickup
|
|
|
|
|
|
I am sharing this communication from the Mayor’s office. Please read as it contains important information about parking and garbage/recycling pick up.
In order to ensure all trash is picked up on Monday for Wards One, Two and Three, the City has announced:
-
An alternate side parking notice beginning at 12:01 am on Monday, February 2 (that is tonight if you’re reading this on February 1)
-
Available on-street locations for parking
-
Designated locations for trash carts
Ongoing Snow Clean-Up
An winter weather event expected today is now forecasted for little to no precipitation, which allows City teams and vendors to continue clean-up efforts following last week’s major weather event. Crews remain out clearing and removing snow from our neighborhoods and major corridors.
Alternate Side Parking and Trash and Recycling Services
As many of us in Ward 2 and elsewhere have experienced, crews faced very difficult trash and recycling removal conditions and as a result, a significant number of trash and recycling pickups were not completed.
In an effort to ensure that residents and businesses do not miss service again this week, the City will be supporting Waste Management’s collection efforts by instituting a temporary alternate side parking effort in Wards One, Two and Three, where Monday pickup is scheduled.
Residents with permitted overnight parking passes will be allowed to park on the odd-numbered sides of the streets and are asked to place trash and recycling barrels on the even-numbered sides of the street. This begins at 12:01 am on Monday, February 2.
Available On-Street Parking
Overnight parking also will be allowed in the designated snow parking ban areas during this time. Parking on Doyle Street will be allowed on the odd-numbered side of the street only. Residents that do not have permits will be ticketed. Everyone who can remove their vehicles and find off-street parking is encouraged to do so until trash and recycling can be removed on Monday.
Ongoing PVD311 Requests
The Mayor’s office also suggests that missed trash or recycling collection outside of Monday scheduled pick up be reported to PVD311. While snow removal will continue throughout the days ahead, 311 requests that were submitted and completed will be notified via their preferred method of communication (text, phone call or email).

A few additional notes from me:
-
Please share this information with your neighbors to make sure they’re aware.
-
Pickup will start very early tomorrow morning. This will create noise at times when we usually don’t expect it. Thank you for your patience in this necessary instance.
-
Do not park on the even-number side of a street after 12:01 am on Monday, February 2.
-
If you have an overnight permit, only park on the odd number side of the street or in a designated snow ban area per the instructions above.
-
If you can park your vehicles off the street, please do. Do you have room in your driveway? Be kind and offer it to neighbors in need.
-
If you live at at an odd-numbered address, you need to pull your garbage and recycling receptacles to the even-numbered side of the street. This means that we will all need to cooperate. If your neighbors need help with this, please lend a hand. Many of us will need to drag them across snow and ice, and two weeks of trash make for heavy carts,
-
Same goes for removing receptacles from the street. When you notice that your street’s trash has been picked up, please remove your receptacles as soon as you can. If you can lend your neighbors a hand with this, please do.
-
If you have not already, you may want to mark your garbage and recycling cans with your street number to avoid confusion about which cans belong to whom.
-
I do not have information about when this alternate side parking arrangement will be concluded. I truly expect (and also hope) that all trash and recycling will be picked up by this evening and that will signal the end of the alternate side situation. If and when I receive information about an ending, I will send an update.
Though my aim is to send this Ward 2 Letter once a week, I will risk cluttering your inbox with follow up email if I have urgent updates to share.
As always, if you have any questions at all, please send them my way. Thank you all for your patience as the City deals with this snowfall fallout and for being great neighbors to each other.

On Tuesday, February 3, the Committee on Public Works will convene at 5:30 pm at City Hall for a “discussion related to snow removal and salting” with Department of Public Works personnel. It is a public meeting that you may attend, but it is not a public hearing which means that public comment during the meeting will not be possible. This meeting will be available for live viewing (see link below). I plan to attend the meeting and will share information and updates that emerge from this discussion.

My colleague President Pro Tempore Juan M. Pichardo (Ward 9), who chairs the Providence City Council Special Committee on Health, Opportunity, Prosperity, and Education (HOPE), has announced that the committee will hold a public hearing on the proposed rent stabilization ordinance. The hearing will be held on Wednesday, February 18, at 5:30 pm in the City Council Chamber on the third floor of City Hall. Constituents are encouraged to attend to share their opinions on the ordinance, make suggestions, and hear the thoughts of their neighbors.
You may offer your comments in writing by emailing cityclerk at providenceri.gov or by sharing your thoughts at the hearing.
