I think that it would be great if money didn't
matter, but it's important to recognize that different people have
different priorities and expectations, and these change as we age.
Providence, and even the Summit Ave. area, is not
one single city with one single unifying identity. Unfortunately,
there are real economic boundaries. Most people just
out of college simply will not be able to afford to live in a
neighborhood with $350,000+ houses. I know that I couldn't...I didn't
want to; it was too boring. When
a person moves to a particular neighborhood, there are certain
regulations that need to be understood and followed. And it's not
about being up tight or elitist or wanting to have a white picket fence
and manicured lawns in front of every house. People put work into
creating their community.<br>

At the same time, I know that neighborhoods change, but it's in part up
to residents to make the change. This is quite different from a real
estate
developer who does not live in a neighborhood but decides to pack as
many people as possible into a house to make a buck.<br>
<br>
I don't know that I understand all aspects of the on-street/off-street
parking issue, so I appreciate the conversation.<br>

an extra person on board you can cover the rent but uh-oh; both of you have
a car, 4 people who live upstairs each have a car, and the driveway only
fits 2 cars! It looks like someones gonna have to pay 15$ every night to
park on the street or move out...that sucks, the neighbors up the block can
afford a nice house with a two car garage, why cant you?
Something's gotta give. If not overnight parking for all, then those with a
special case should be able to apply for an overnight parking sticker if
they meet certain requirements (no driveway, apartment doesnt have space
etc...)
Concerning the lawn issue: I wish that people who complain about paved front
lawns stopped to think that if the tenants of those buildings could park on
the street, there would be no need to pave nice landscaped yards (as greg
already pointed out).
