I was told REGULAR household batteries no longer have mercury and don't get

RECHARGEABLE batteries should be recycled, and can be taken to Whole Foods or
Staples, or could at the time.

Those new, energy efficient light bulbs, BTW, also are supposed to be recycled
because of mercury. They can be taken to Home Depot, including long
fluorescent tubes.
Stores collecting generally take back- whether you bought them there or not.
Recycle cell phones?

Anyone know of a reputable organization that accepts old cell phones
for recycling with a charitable purpose?

Thanks.
