Oops that's because I pasted the wrong link; it began with a DailyKos piece which cited a number of sources, but I'm seeing links all over the place now:<div><a href="http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/11/04/1155381/-Breaking-Romney-Paid-Zero-Taxes-From-1996-To-2009">http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/11/04/1155381/-Breaking-Romney-Paid-Zero-Taxes-From-1996-To-2009</a></div>
<div><br></div><div>They're obviously careful to clarify that their assessment is only "theoretical" (whatever that means in this context). I confess that I had never heard of a "CRUT" before (<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CRUT#United_States">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CRUT#United_States</a>) ...probably why I'm not a 1%er. But whatever small portion of his income this may in fact comprise, it doesn't particularly "feel" on the up-and-up.</div>
<div><br></div><div>The loophole was apparently closed in 1997 yet somehow it's still permitted in some cases.</div><div><br></div><div>This wasn't intended as a "distortion", just an addendum to a pattern of behavior--secrecy is probably more accurate--which, most notably, involves Mr Romney's faith and his taxes, here forever enshrined in LDS-IRS unity.</div>

Nowhere does this article say anything about how much tax Romney paid
between 1996 and 2009. The candidates do enough distorting; they don't
need help from us.<br><br>

all these social programs for those 47% of freeloading, thieving,

What is, perhaps, most egregious--and ironic--in all this is that Mitt
Romney apparently paid nearly zero income taxes between 1996 and 2009
(the year before the 2010 tax return he actually made public):<br>

So Mr Romney, it turns out, is one of the 47%. Interesting.<br><br>
