Hi, Ellen and Neighbors,

Sorry to be replying so late. As it happened we had made an appointment with a chimney cleaner for our own wood stove, and I was waiting to see what he would be like. He seems very good. His name is Wayne and his company is Competitive Chimney Sweep, Inc. (401) 356-4455.

Wayne had been recommended to us by our carpenter/contractor, who put in our wood stove and metal insulated chimney, and who used to clean it, but can't do it any more.

Wayne took photos of the chimney from the wood stove up and from the chimney cap down. The pictures showed that we don't need a cleaning at this time.

Ed, our contractor, says Wayne also services brick chimneys. Sometime we'll have him take a look at our brick chimney that vents the furnace and hot water heater.

It's important to have a good chimney sweep. Before Wayne, and before Ed did it for us a couple of times, we hired two that didn't work out very well. The first one seems to have bent something inside the stove when he sent his brushes up the chimney from the bottom. The moveable baffle inside the stove hasn't worked as well after that. The second one didn't brush from the top down as well as from the bottom up, and we had a chimney fire. That was scary, believe me. (Elva to Firemen: "Will it burn our house down?" Firemen: "Probably not." "Probably" wasn't that reassuring... We didn't go to sleep that night.)

In summary, I recommend Wayne of Competitive Chimney Sweep, Inc.

Elva

On Thu, Nov 21, 2013 at 9:21 AM, Ellen Santaniello <esantaniello@gmail.com> wrote:
