I'd say that the vast majority of children at this playground are under 4; hence the name "Tot Lot". We had plenty of space to kick a ball around casually but I don't recall ever seeing toddlers playing a game of pickup soccer there.

Lippitt Park is a block away, with space for this and much more. I don't think it's unreasonable for parents to see the Tot Lot as a place for youngsters, castles and all.
There was a time when neighborhood kids could organize a pick up game of kickball or soccer in the park which is pretty much impossible with all of that cheap plastic junk peppered throughout. Sometimes less is more and I for one applaud the City's attempt to maintain a safe, clean and open space for kids to frolic. Please bring balls, pails, bubbles, checkers etc but leave your giant mildewed castle at home. If you give the city 24 hours notice (1-800-972-4545) they will happily pick up your large toys curbside.
