These items drastically increase the plastic pollution that is choking our oceans and affecting our health and wellbeing. Did you know that?</p> <p><strong>SINGLE-USE PLASTIC FACT:</strong> In 2016, world plastics production totaled around 335 million metric tons, and roughly half of that is destined for a single-use product.</p> <p><strong>SINGLE-USE PLASTIC FACT:</strong> The main cause for the increase in plastic production is plastic packaging which constitutes 52% of plastics thrown away.</p> <p>The constant presence of single-use plastics in modern culture is one of the reasons why they contribute so much to the growing problem of plastic pollution. We use these objects so frequently on a day to day basis that it requires a serious and conscious effort to cut them out of our lives.</p> <p>To illustrate the journey of reducing one’s consumption of single-use plastics, and to give you some ideas for how you can be more active in your effort to End Plastic Pollution, we are releasing the first of a series of blogs on this topic this week.
