[Summit] Gardener?

I think this might be a good idea. There are local
services of various sorts in the East Side Monthly,
but ads there are somewhat expensive, I believe -
and it only comes out once a month. (Of course,
someone would have to update the website frequently
to make it more useful).
Re: the gardening services - there were a couple
of young women doing this under the name Lady Catalpa
Gardening, but they were both away all winter and now
I hear that one is working in Maine. I am trying to
reach the other to find out if she is still providing
the services, perhaps with another partner. I'll
report on what I find out about this.
One good resource in the neighborhood, by the way,
is Alexandra Knott of East Side Eden - a shop and
greenhouse just off the end of the boulevard, on
the Pawtucket line. You can call her at 726-2700,
or see her website: www.eastsideeden.com She gave
a talk for my organization at the RI Flower & Garden
Show, and offers some services - urban gardening is
her specialty.
If anyone is seeking other kinds of services, such
as lawn care or landscaping, or places to get supplies,
especially organic ones, or just advice on gardening
and landscaping, you should know about a new resource
just produced by my organization, the Toxics Information
Project (based in Summit).
We have just produced a handbook, the Less Toxic Landscaping
Resource Directory, with info on all of the above for
Rhode Island, nearby CT and MA. You can check this out
at our website at: http://www.toxicsinfo.org/lesstoxic.htm
Or, contact me by E-Mail and tell me you are a Summit
neighbor - I can drop it off to you for the discount
price of $3.50 if I don't need to mail it. (Regular
cost is $5).
Hope this is helpful,
Blessings,
Liberty G

These requests prompt me to think that, maybe, a Summit Web site (is
there one? I don't see it linked here; just the list subscription
site) could include "wanted" and "help available" listings unique to
our neighborhood -- for residents, by residents. This would be
particularly useful in the summer months.
I have teen children ages 15 and 13 who are experienced with dog-
walking and other animal care, babysitting, simple gardening tasks,
basic cleaning, and so on, but who are too busy with school and
sports right now to take on more work. Because they are not yet 16,
they can't apply for many jobs in stores, restaurants, etc. I'm sure
they would love some local jobs they could walk to in the summer
months to earn a little cash. A win-win.
I'm not sure where to direct this idea.
