[Summit] Parking

Thomas,
I think that it would be great if money didn't matter, but it's
important to recognize that different people have different priorities
and expectations, and these change as we age. Providence, and even the
Summit Ave. area, is not one single city with one single unifying
identity. Unfortunately, there are real economic boundaries. Most
people just out of college simply will not be able to afford to live in
a neighborhood with $350,000+ houses. I know that I couldn't...I didn't
want to; it was too boring. When a person moves to a particular
neighborhood, there are certain regulations that need to be understood
and followed. And it's not about being up tight or elitist or wanting
to have a white picket fence and manicured lawns in front of every
house. People put work into creating their community.
At the same time, I know that neighborhoods change, but it's in part up
to residents to make the change. This is quite different from a real
estate developer who does not live in a neighborhood but decides to pack
as many people as possible into a house to make a buck.
I don't know that I understand all aspects of the on-street/off-street
parking issue, so I appreciate the conversation.
