"Labyrinth Talks"

A Series of Lectures Offered by

The Church of the Redeemer

655 Hope St., Providence, RI

 

We happy to present this series entitled, "Labyrinth Talks," which will
explore questions of faith and reason, religion and science, philosophy
and theology, belief and doubt.  We chose the symbol of the labyrinth to
indicate a path leading to a center.  We leave the meaning of the symbol
for you to your imagination: a gradual, round about course that leads
one to new understandings; an upward spiraling staircase lifting one to
greater insights; a route that guides one from darkness into light?  We
invite you to step onto the path with us and journey to the center,
however you envision it.

 

 

SPRING SCHEDULE

 

Wednesday, February 14 : Rev. David A. Ames  - "Reintroducing God"

 

David Ames is Interim Rector at St. Mark's Church, Riverside; Adjunct
Faculty in the Dept. of Philosophy at Rhode Island College; and a
consultant for non-profit organizations with the Executive Service Corps
of New England (ESCNE).  He is a member of the Ethics Committee of the
R.I. Genomics and Proteomics BioBank. He also has an appointment as
Clinical Assistant Professor of Community Health, Brown Medical School.

 

Tuesday, March 13 :  Nancy Kendrick - "What was God Doing in the 17th
century?"

 

Nancy Kendrick is Associate Professor and Chair of Philosophy at Wheaton
College in Norton, MA. She is a member of the Vestry at Grace Church in
downtown Providence.

 

Tuesday, April 10 : Kenneth Miller - "God vs. Darwin:  Evolution and the
Battle for America's Soul"

 

Kenneth R. Miller is Professor of Biology at Brown University.  He is
author of high school and college biology textbooks used by millions of
students nationwide, and was the lead witness in support of evolution in
the Dover, Pennsylvania trial on the teaching of "intelligent design" in
2005.

 

Tuesday, May 8 :  Ellen Hight - "Spirituality and Medicine"

 

Dr. Hight is a physician with University Family Medicine, East
Greenwich; she is also Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine
at the Brown Medical School. 

 

Lecture will take place at 7:30 pm, in the Parish Hall (entrance at rear
of church, on Savoy St).  All talks are free and open to the public,
with discussion and refreshments afterward.
