[Summit] MacHelp!!!!

Hello,

I need some computer Advice and Geek/Nerd/Whiz recommendations for my iMac
Dual core. Who knows someone who really knows the Macs, but also speaks
English to the computer challenged?  I am especially interested in security
stuff.  I am not finding my Mac to be as invulnerable as everyone says they
are.

Things seem to be okay now, but yesterday some bizarre stuff happened in my
computer.
In retrospect last week my iPhoto files wouldn't open. Someone had
downloaded some photos into my computer for me right before that, and then
showed me there were great things I could do with iPhoto, so at first I just
thought somehow the access method was changed.  Then I couldn't find the
iPhoto & Photo Booth files at all.
At first I though that was me, forgetting where to look for them. Now I see
they are GONE. (thank goodness I have everything important on disk).
Then yesterday, suddenly my screen saver disappeared and reverted to
default.  While I was reloading the photos for that, my desktop image
disappeared from right behind the working window, reverting to default.
A little while later, as I was emailing, my partition of the computer lost
FireFox and defaulted to Safari.
(I did a quick check and Firefox was still in my Admin & husband's
partitions, but I didn't want to risk contaminating them if I had a virus,
so instead of retrieving it from there...)
I down loaded FireFox again. As a result we got upgraded to FireFox 2.
When I was done, I discovered that somehow the BlueTooth connection had
gotten turned on. I don't know if it is secure, since we don't use it. Who
or what turned that on?? I turned it off again.
Then when I checked, all my security settings were gone, and I had to reset
them: I hope I remembered them all- I had help last time.
When I went back to email, it said that my Gmail transmissions were not
encrypted, and anyone could read them.  Maybe it says that now because I
turned on a new setting? but in the past it used to tell me something
similar about the Cox mail we had, that it was not secure (so I THINK the
warning was turned on), but it never said that about Gmail. Now it even says
it every time I save this message as I work on it. It did not do that with
cox.
So is it that my warning setting different somehow? Or did Gmail change? Did
some invader take away an encrypting of Gmail that I previously had? Do I
need encrypted Gmail?
How do I know what sites are safe to download security software from? I
already knew I needed anti spyware.  Now it seems I need more...

And I am assuming I am not sending any problems out with this email!!  Could
that happen?

Sheesh technology is wonderful... and full of wondering.
