[Summit] Summit Digest, Vol 34, Issue 24

One of the aspects in this discussion that has been missing is commending
Kelly in getting involved. I called her yesterday to get some clarity on her
email and found out that she is a young mother of a 4 year old and another
child much younger than that (I forget the age of the younger child). Along
with that, she also works in Interior Design, a field I once worked in that
is very labor intensive and competitive. That she has gotten involved is
admirable.

I have not been involved in politics on this level and I think it's great
that she is. We might not all agree with her methods but she is involved and
that's great.

I totally agree with Bob. Real local politics is also real action in the
community.

It should be noted that several members of the SNA board are active in party
politics in our community, and from a variety of parties. And all working to
improve life in the community together. Greg Gerritt

I think this was an appropriate announcement. Someone here once described
this forum as analogous to talking to your neighbor over the fence. Assuming
you have an ongoing conversational relationship with your neighbors I think
you would occasionally let each other know about community or civic
involvements to provide the option to help each other out. What I think
would harm the relationship with my neighbor is if one of us frequently put
unwelcome propaganda of some type in each others mailbox.

However, I do have a lively exchange of political views via calls and
messages with one of my neighbors who has a very different world view from
me. I think we have each found it enlightening.

Personally, I think it could be fun and informative to have a forum
dedicated to this type of exchange in the way [market] is for community, low
key commerce. Below are our current e-mail lists. Perhaps we ca revive and
dedicate ProvForum for this.

I agree with Jennifer, Coryndon and Kelly -- this is not political

advocacy but an announcement. As long as we do not exclude or take

sides I don't see the offense. One could day that SNA itself gets

involved in "political" issues, even if it does not endorse candidates,

so this is a natural outgrowth. I would only be concerned if someone

overused the privilege, which is not the case here.

I believe Kelly said " to remind you, it?s not a vote for anyone?

it?s just a signature." I don't think she was endorsing one party or the

other. And for what it's worth, I'm a Democrat, but would certainly sign

the petition for the Republicans to get on the ballot.

A fair and open election is what we should all be hoping for.

I object to many views on this list and I am not aware of anyone

restricting this to strictly "Summit" as we have a few folks who still

participate from outside of the neighborhood.

As for the party in question at least one of the participants in the

discussion involved was from the competing party. I my opinion community

events and actions are community appropriate even if you are not

supportive of them. If you don't like it hit the delete button.
