Incidentally, the <http://www.providenceri.com/>city's web site
announced, yesterday, a new on-line tool for tracking neighborhood
crime. Here's the the
<http://www.providenceri.com/press/article.php?id=331>press release.
The tool is Citizen Observer. It appears to be a two-way
communication tool, allowing citizens to give police tips and
allowing citizens to view alerts and even track progress on open
cases.
I signed up. The web site is not as user-friendly as I would like
and, as far as I can see, there is so far no information of any kind
posted by the police. I imagine it will take a while before they get
up to speed, but I wish they had waited to launch it until it had
something to offer. On the other hand, three break-ins in a week
would seem to justify an alert and case-progress note soon.
