Hello Neighbors,
We have just learned from Festival Director Adam Gertsacov, that Bright
Night, THE great December 31st Entertainment Event, WILL happen, but it now
needs some help- because 1) Mayor Cecilline declined to contribute any
city funds this year, and 2) the Dept of Tourism, which usually sponsors the
fireworks, also plans to contribute no funds-- so....
as Adam suggested- I'm going to ask you to support Bright Night in three
different ways.
1) *Write a polite letter* to Mayor Cicilline, telling him how upset you are
with the decision to cancel sponsorship of Bright Night, and how important
the festival is to the city. This would be especially useful if you are a
Providence resident.
2) *Give some money*. We are starting a grassroots campaign to get 2010
people to donate $20 and tell 10 people in the next 30 days. Give 20 bucks,
and encourage 10 friends (or more) to do so. Twitter it. Facebook it.
Myspace it. Send out a carrier pigeon.
The URL for the campaign is http://www.donate.brightnight.org
3)* Get people to buy tickets! * Encourage friends, family, relatives,
enemies, lovers, groupies, and complete strangers to purchase tickets.
Tickets are now on sale at http://www.brightnight.org/purchase.html.
They are $10 if purchased on or before 12/24, $15 if purchased on 12/25 or
later.
We need to let EVERYBODY WE KNOW in on the secret that the future of Bright
Night depends on their buying a ticket, and giving an extra $20.
It's a tough time right now for everybody, and I want to thank you in
advance for your patience, your understanding, and for your loyalty to
Bright Night.
I am sure that with your help, we WILL make this New Year's Eve a Bright
Night.
Elianna
