Just a small batch this time: two craft projects, a keepsake box and a letter box, unpainted wood with hardware (hinges and nails to attach them) in an envelope, ready to assemble. Available immediately on my porch at 39 Langham.

Neighbors,

In brief, in very brief, because this isn't what I was hoping to be doing on my Saturday: I saw the signs at the fountain this morning, didn't like either their appearance or their verbiage, and wrote to Bob McMahon of the Parks Department. He very kindly wrote back within hours, saying that the city is concerned about what they find to be increasingly irresponsible behavior, and that they don't have the budget this year for signs that would be in keeping with the character of the fountain.

I believe completely that the Parks Department is acting in good faith, and I want to work with them. My personal belief is that the fountain is safe; it's irresponsible behavior that's unsafe, and signage should (1) visually, be in keeping with the fountain and (2) verbally, not contribute toward societal tendencies toward litigiousness and lack of personal responsibility.

My solution is in two parts: (1) I offer my professional services as a writer to create better verbiage, and (2) I'll ask the SNA Board to partially fund the creation of signs that are more in keeping with the character of the fountain.

Because I can't guaranteee that SNA will spend more money after spending so much already, I'd like to ask for volunteers: would someone or several someones reading this message be willing to help raise funds? Compared to the work that's been done so far, this is a very small task, and it would be a very meaningful way to show your appreciation for this local treasure.

Greg, I appreciate it -- thank you. I should have explained better in my original message that I just have too many commitments right now to lead this effort, so what I'm hoping is that people will be able to run with this themselves. Something as simple as going around with a coffee can at the Farmer's Market may be the best answer!

Can anyone recommend a good, honest plumber? Preferably one who doesn't charge the 02906 tax?

Thank you!

Folks,

I wanted to pass along the following message from the Fox Point
Neighborhood Association about the proposed I-195 Redevelopment Legislation.
Unfortunately, the timing of the next vote doesn't give the SNA Board to take a
position on either side, but regardless of how you feel on the issue, I urge
you to contact Speaker Fox and the other Providence Representatives and
make your opinion heard.

- Jesse

=-=-=

The General Assembly has proposed I-195 Redevelopment Legislation that
would take away our say in local building development, zoning and other
matters over the I-195 parcels for the next 21 years.
Take 30 seconds and click on this link to kill this bill!
You can add a message to it that will go to Speaker Fox and all of the
Providence Representatives.
Thanks,
Ian Barnacle, FPNA President

Hello there -

Someone recently posted an inquiry reaching out to folks who want to
discussion alternative energy possibilities for your home and the
neighborhood. I've somehow lost that thread but my husband Chris and I would
be interested in taking part. Sign us up!
