[Summit] Lawnmower Crisis

I'm with you, Mikaila.  My sister lives in a subdivision in Houston which not only prohibits the hanging out of laundry, but also specifies what colors one may paint one's house and stipulates that the grass not exceed a certain length. I'm sure that lawn alternatives are also interdicted.  The sameness is stultifying.

I like some lawn to play on and walk in bare feet ... you don't need to use chemicals to have a healthy lawn.

In problem spots I mix in white clover which is very pretty when it is rolling along with grass kept at a longer than traditional height - clover provides nitrogen and tends to do well when the grass is struggling during certain years - plus the clover attracts bees.

For weed control there are cornstarch based inhibitors to prevent germination - plus the tried and true method of pulling them up by hand (very therapeutic!).

And for fertilizer - good ol' manure works though it does smell like the neighborhood dogs had a big party on the lawn for about a week - I am sure some of my neighbors were not too thrilled.  And a little shade from strategically placed trees also helps keep the grubs down and the grass healthy.
