[Summit] Late Summer meetings and events

I hope everyone's bearing up well under the unbearable heat and humidity.

Various meetings and events to come, including one involving the empty stores on Wayland & Medway. This is by no means a comprehensive calendar or schedule.

Tonight (Mon. 17 Aug.), 7 p.m. - Summit Neighborhood Association board of directors, open public meeting, main floor café, Summit Commons (formerly Hillside Nursing Home), 99 Hillside Ave., halfway between Gregg's on North Main and 3 Sisters on Hope & Blackstone

Tomorrow (Tues. 18 Aug.), 4:45 p.m. City Plan Commission will hear some relatively small matters including an application to waive window regulations for some unspecified building addition to the former site of Butterfield at 187 Wayland at Medway. More below.

Thursday 20 August, 5 to 9 p.m. - Gallery Night Providence

Wednesday 26 August, 7 p.m. - Neighborhood Discussion Group at Books on the Square (471 Angell at Elmgrove, next to CVS) - no agenda yet. However, I'm actively trying to get a utility representative to talk about progress in the repiping and repaving along Angell Street and/or someone from Pawtucket to talk about their annual arts festival and their view of McCoy Stadium's projected replacement. (Unfortunately,  this meeting will start after dusk on Yom Kippur.)

Wednesday 26 August, 7:30 p.m. - new date for "Ghostbusters" outside the Granoff arts center on Angell Street above Thayer; see attached schedule

Wednesday 2 September, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.- rescheduled date for Roz and the Rice Cakes at Brown Street Park; see schedule

Thursday 17 September, 5 to 9 p.m. - Gallery Night Providence

Saturday 20 September, afternoon - Hope Street Fair

Wednesday 23 September, 7 p.m. - Neighborhood Discussion Group at Books on the Square - guest, Lieut. Joseph Donnelly, the new police commander for East Side Districts 8 and 9; also speakers about Pawtucket or water pipes who couldn't come in August.

More about changes to Wayland Square.

I don't know what's planned for 187 Wayland Avenue, one of the four businesses displaced by a burst water pipe last fall, although much may be made clearer at tomorrow's Plan Commission meeting.

Reliable Gold, another of those stores, plans to move into 9 Wayland Square (formerly Lila Delman realty) next to l'Artisan Bakery, but it hasn't yet opened there. Reliable Gold's previous temporary location across Medway next to the Providence Running Co. in the former Runcible Spoon has been vacated to accommodate Pasta Beach, an Italian restaurant now in Newport and Boston.

Wayland Square Fine Wines and Spirits is leaving its street-level location between CladIn and Wayland Square Diner for the space under Lim's Asian restaurant on South Angell Street, formerly Public Sound and then various political campaign headquarters. (No doubt those in a mood to celebrate some event will soon be able to buy both wine and jewellery by turning the corner without crossing a street.)

The applicant is requesting a waiver from the design regulations of the C-2 zone. The applicant is requesting that
the regulations for fenestration be waived for an addition to a building at 187 Wayland Avenue – for action
(Wayland, AP 15 Lot 155)

PUBLIC HEARING
3. Amendment of the City Plan Commission’s Development Review Regulations
The Commission will review the amendments to the Development review regulations

The regulations will be amended to ensure consistency with the Zoning Ordinance and state law, to correct technical and clerical errors and
