Jean Patiky, artist member of the Providence Art Club, uses a portrait of David Bournes (founder of Paul Cuffee School) painted by her revered and talented portrait painting instructor at the Art Club, Ray Finelli, to teach the second graders about portraits. Jean has been a weekly volunteer in the lower school art room for several years and also a member of the school's Board of Trustees. Take a look at the drawings they will be painting next week. Followed by self-portraits collages by another class.

Jean said "...another part of this story is that I was introduced to PCS by my beloved and departed friend, David Burnham, (a long time PAC member) who was a founder of this school after he retired as Head of School of Moses Brown. He walked me through the halls one day, a little one hugged him around his knees....and the rest is history! I fell in love with the school, the kids and the art program."

|  Soiree of Fine Art Photography Gareth Rockliffe and Jan Soderquist The Great American Coast LineMeditative video and lecture Maxwell Mays Gallery, Providence Art Club This Saturday, October 8 at 11am
Join us for a visual experience with Naples-based, husband and wife photographers Gareth Rockliffe and Jan Soderquist. Known for their "Soulscapes," soulful landscapes and seascapes that are as much emotive as they are beautiful. Their latest project is "a quest to capture the beauty, diversity, and majesty of the Great American Coastline." The photographic duo have embarked on a multi-year expedition, photographing the Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, and Atlantic coastlines. The results have been some striking, sometimes haunting, photographs of the turbid Pacific coast; stark, primeval images of Florida's long, snaking shoreline and an evocative, foggy visage of the Atlantic northeast -- the imagery caught does true justice to the beauty of the American coastline.

We are fortunate to have them continuing that project on the New England shoreline as guests of our member Theresa Girard. As they continue to shoot and video, they agreed to share their time with us for an exclusive showing of their 30 minute meditative video and discuss methods and experiences with participants.

Members and non-members welcome to this FREE event! Event and refreshments underwritten by "Workshops for Creative People" with Theresa Girard       |
