[Summit] Last Night's BOE Meeting

For those who don't yet know, last night the Rhode Island Board of
Elections held a special meeting to hear the challenges by Kevin Jackson's
legal team to the recall effort.

The Recall Kevin Jackson site was represented by their lawyer, and the
Providence Board of Canvassers by their legal team hired to represent them
in this instance.

Three objections to the process were denied. You can read those objections
in the minutes of the meeting once they are published. The BOE's lawyer was
very careful to make sure that the record of the hearing was very clear in
the event that Jackson decides to appeal the decision to the State Supreme
Court.

Sitting in that meeting for 2 1/2 hours, it struck me how our elected
representative is trying to nullify the democratic voices of his
constituency on the basis of procedural objections that have been
repeatedly denied.

Democracy is not self-sustaining. It requires our participation and our
voices to make it work.
